The concept of SDIs reside in “working smarter, not harder” by re-using data, technical capabilities, skills, intellectual effort and capital, through sharing the costs of people, technology and infrastructure. SDIs rely on the development of policies, technologies, data, common standards, standard practices, protocols and specifications. The SDI main concept is to move spatial data into Web environment and to use Web services for building network of distributed Geoportals. Using new methods of digital cartography enables to go beyond linguistic frontiers. The European INSPIRE Directive adopted in March 2006 defines the standards for future European SDI. With implementation of INSPIRE initiative, there will be strong need for capacity building and transfer of experience among architects, spatial planners, European Regions and municipalities.

The four-year project Humboldt (http://www.esdi-humboldt.eu/home) and its half-year extension (by March 2011) contribute to the implementation of an ESDI (European Spatial Data Infrastructure) that integrates all the diversity of spatial data available from the multitude of European organizations, it is the aim of this project to manage and advance the implementation process of this ESDI. To achieve this objective and to maximize the benefits gained from this integration, the requirements of INSPIRE, of GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security), of the environmental agencies and of other related activities in the EU will be met.

Project Humboldt started with an analysis to facilitate the re-use of existing concepts, processes, implementations and experiences. This also included the analyses of harmonization processes in other application areas. Following project Humboldt is extending the existing by the needs of users and administrators especially in the area of GMES. As a cornerstone for future businesses, spatial planning, citizen security, risk management and many more opportunities, the ESDI has to be a lasting development, prepared for the steps that will inevitably follow with the continuing progression of globalization. To enable this, the Humboldt project suggests an optimized, community-driven implementation process. New knowledge will then be gained and new processes will be developed from the possible combination of data that already exists but is currently highly scattered and heterogeneous.

Vysocina reaches over 800 meters in altitude, in the two distinct mountain ranges of Zdarske vrchy in the north of the region and Jihlavske vrchy in the south-west. The main European water divide, echoing the former frontier between Bohemia and Moravia, divides the region into two parts almost equal in area. Bordering the South-Moravian Region to the east, the South-Bohemian and Middle Bohemian Regions to the west, and sharing a border with the Pardubice Region to the north-east, the region is situated in the very heart of the Czech Republic. The economy of the region's eastern part is influenced by the neighbouring urban centre of Brno, while the north-eastern part is within the sphere of influence of the capital of Prague.

Catalogue client allows search through connected metadata catalogues by catalogue service OGC CSW. Data can be search by text or by defined elements defined in standards (OGC CSW 2.0.2, AP ISO, INSPIRE). Basic elements are dataset and services. Basic elements can be extended by user demands but they will not be searchable on other catalogues. First version of catalogue used cascading of multiple services. This version support adding services independently on each other.

This application interact with map viewer so it can be added map services into map by one click. Another interaction is with metadata extractor. Documents or web pages stored by extractor can be opened also by one click.

Services can be added from list of predefined services or it can be added by direct link
